Today is World Water Day, so I thought it was a great opportunity to talk about the benefits of organic cotton on the environment over conventional cotton and particularly how much less water consumption organic cotton uses!
Organic cotton trumps conventional cotton in being more friendly to our planet by:
🌱 Reduces greenhouse gas emissions by up to 94%
🧪 No synthetic or chemical pesticides
☠️ 0% hazardous material used
🚫 Never genetically modified
💧 Cuts water pollution impact by up to 98%
Of course organic cotton is more expensive than conventional cotton and I appreciate that often sustainable family living has to come on a budget. You can also look into recycled cotton as an alternative. Or if you are really on a budget, buy preloved or upcycle so at least conventional cotton garments are getting used by multiple people rather than just being produced and wasted on a mass scale.
But, even just by knowing the damage conventional cotton can have on the environment is a step in the right direction to making eco-conscious decisions.
There are also plenty other fabrics that are better for the environment, such as linen. I'll be covering that in another blog post, so keep your eyes peeled 👀
